Senior Cost Engineer
FOCAL PM is currently seeking a Cost Engineer to join the Athens Rezi team. This team oversees the planning, permitting, design, and construction of residential building projects. In this position you will have an opportunity to work alongside a dynamic team of industry professionals.
The position will report to Focal’s Senior Cost Manager and the work includes performing cost estimating, cost planning, drafting BoQ’s, certification/invoice analysis & processing, on site measurements, development of progress cost reports. The specific responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Liaising with the Client and Design Team to determine and develop brief
- Preparing initial budget estimates for feasibility purposes
- Advising on the effect of market conditions
- Preparing and developing cost plans during all design phases
- Carrying out cost checks and advising on the consequences of changes to the project
- Advising on suitable tendering procedures and contractual arrangements
- Preparing tender documents and BoQ’s in such a form as to enable tenders to be invited
- Advising on and obtaining approval to a list of tenderers, if necessary, interviewing prospective tenderers and reporting thereon
- Inviting tenders from selected contractors, checking, analysis and appraising tenders and reporting
- Negotiating and agreeing a contact sum with a selected contractor
- Assembling Contract Documents and arranging for them to be executed
- Liaising with the Client and Design Team on a day-to-day basis
- Preparing recommendations for interim payments to the Contractor
- Preparing periodic assessments of the anticipated final cost of the works and reporting
- Measuring work and adjusting variations in accordance with the terms of Contract
- Preparing and agreeing final account with the Contractor including dealing with day-to-day claims and disputes and resolving as far as possible to protect the Client’s interests
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field
- Post-Graduate Degree, Accreditation in QS or other
- Seven (7) years of project controls or cost control experience
- Experience in performing, monitoring, and reviewing cost engineering functions, which include cost estimating, cost analysis & control
- Experience with high-end residential developments
- Excellent English oral and written Communication
- Well versed in Microsoft Office 365 software applications and specialized cost software
- Knowledge of financial reporting systems and controller account codes
- Knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction
- Knowledge of engineering and construction management
- Ability to understand and explain work processes and procedures
- Ability to take initiative in project related tasks
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload to ensure effective project delivery
- Ability to take direction and provide clear direction on project related tasks
- Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
